Magna, based in Telford, Shropshire, is a major co-manufacturing business specialising in moulded chocolate confectionery, supplying major brand owners from a single manufacturing site.
A traditionally labour intensive operation, Magna has seen significant investment over the past 15-years and now operates a high volume and automated system, ensuring efficient and consistent productivity during peak seasons.

The Challenge

When manufacturing food products, an organised and thorough cleaning solution must be rigorously enforced, and Magna requires a supplier who can provide a cost efficient and effective service to meet the challenges of its seasonal product portfolio. As a seasonal manufacturer, there are large fluctuations in the operational activity, which brings unique challenges during both the low and high product demand periods, and can mean the quantity of on-site employees between the two phases can vary significantly – something which a cleaning company must account for.

The Solution

Axis Cleaning & Support Services has developed a flexible operating programme that facilitates the business’ seasonal demands, ensuring quality service levels that are consistent throughout the year, regardless of the number of employees on site.

Two key required elements of the cleaning service provision have been built into the contract to fulfil this: firstly, full amenities cleaning – including the office areas, welfare areas, staff canteen, toilets and changing areas; and management controls – on both consumables and laundry facilities.

In order to meet the demands of the service provision, all Axis staff members must have a wide range of cleaning skills, and training plays a major part in the progression process of any new member joining the Axis team. This ensures service continuity and enhances staff morale, something Magna believes is important given the demands made of its cleaning employees.

Having worked with Axis Cleaning & Support services for the last nine years, Magna has signed a new three-year contract, as Fiona Hammer, HR Manager at Magna says:
