Charlton Athletic Selects Axis Cleaning and Support Services

August 1, 2014

Axis Cleaning and Support Services, part of Axis Group and the nationwide supplier of commercial cleaning services, has been chosen by Charlton Athletic FC to help ensure the club’s grounds and stadium are clean and welcoming for fans and visitors throughout the 2014/15 the season.

The partnership will begin at the beginning of August, with a pre-season clean of The Valley Stadium, in time for the mid-August start of the season.

Initially, Axis Cleaning and Support Services will be required to provide extensive preparations of the stadium for match days covering seating areas, access points and all external concourses, using its specialist experience in stadium cleaning as well as providing support during and after matches.

In order to cope with the demands of the extensive venue, Axis has invested in a number of high-powered litter blowers and large pedestrian scrubber/dryer equipment, as well as briefing its staff on all aspects of customer service and duties related to ‘the big post match clear-up.’

Andy Curtis, Head of Facilities Management at Charlton Athletic Football Club, says the club was keen to start the season in a good place: “We have had significant investment throughout the club and wanted a partner that could help us keep ahead of the game, to help us do this we have also engaged Axis to pre clean the stadium allowing us to start with a clean canvas,” he says.

“Axis was chosen partly for its competitive pricing structure, but also for the ethos, energy and enthusiasm the company showed which is very much in line with our own club vision.”

With a strong heritage in community projects and local engagement, Andy sees this new partnership as a useful strengthening of relationships between the club and its local partners: “We want and encourage our service partners to be part of a growing community where we can all add value to the club and the community. As part of this partnership we will provide Axis Cleaning and Support Services with advertisement and corporate hospitality at our matches.”

The club’s existing cleaning staff will be transferred to Axis Cleaning and Support Services’ employment under TUPE and the mobilisation of the workforce will be a fundamental starting point of the contract.

Stuart Buswell, Managing Director of Axis Cleaning and Support Services says he is looking forward to working with one of London’s most progressive and community-spirited football clubs: “This new contract gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the specialist service we can provide to sporting and music stadiums and show how we can add real value to venues of this kind.”
