Training Young Talent

Axis Group has been helping local young talent achieve valuable qualifications, and supporting them onto their chosen pathway by giving 16 and 17 year olds Trainee placements.

The Trainees started their 12-week placements with Axis Group in November, working at its head office in Islington, London. Their placements with the business are not only giving them important work experience but also forms part of professional qualifications they will gain through the training, education and recruitment service, JobWise.

Axis Group has always been finding ways to support the local community and following the relocation of its head office last year, which brought together key functions from across the Group’s businesses, various departments were identified as having the ability to take on Trainees to support the business and as investment in tomorrow’s workforce.

Trainees were recruited to work with a particular team within Axis Group, such as Finance, Projects, HR andCustomer Service, but all have gone on to show they are able to adapt to various roles within the office.

Their placement with Axis Group offers them the chance to gain experience they would not find within the classroom says Recruitment Manager, Neil Minter: “The scheme gives young people
the chance to develop their own skills within a professional working environment. They are able to demonstrate competencies in real scenarios and gain from the benefit of working with those who have experience and expertise.

“The scheme is proving to be very successful,” he says. “The young people bring enthusiasm and energy to the roles, with the ability to take on various tasks that not only benefit themselves, but relieve some pressures from the departments they are working in. We plan to take on more young people; hopefully finding a perfect fit for them in the company for 12 weeks and improving their practical skills and their job prospects.”

At the end of the 12-week placement, the Trainees will receive a reference, which will help them apply for further apprenticeships or future job roles, or if they are proven to be an exceptional candidate Axis may offer them a permanent position within the company in the future.
