Axis Security wins contract with University College London

Axis Security, one of the UK’s leading providers of security services, has won a significant contract to provide security guarding services for University College London’s (UCL) entire estate. Some 200 security officers will protect the university’s main campus in Bloomsbury, as well as additional buildings and departments across central London. Staff will be transferred to Axis Security’s employment via the TUPE Regulations.

Traditional security functions – including patrolling, emergency response, key holding, gate house and Control Room duties – as well as Front of House reception duties are incorporated into the new contract.

Mark West, Security Manager at UCL Estates, is a firm believer that customer service is an important part of the 24/7 provision. “It’s important to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors, especially so in buildings such as the library that are open 24/7,” stated West. “We have a fantastic team, many of whom have been with the university for more than ten years. Both the operations response team and officers on reception are committed to providing excellent customer service in their safeguarding roles.”

In what was a competitive tender, Axis Security was chosen partly on the basis of its training capability, staff welfare and technological innovations. “We saw this tender process as an opportunity to look for a fresh approach,” explained West. “It was clear that Axis Security will prioritise officers’ training, development and welfare. I believe if you look after the staff, they will in turn protect the people in their care that much better.”

West concluded: “Overall, Axis Security has proven its understanding of the security challenges we face here at UCL and how to best support the security staff, while also demonstrating the company’s ability to grow as we do. Axis Security has also surpassed our expectations in terms of its innovative ideas, the fruits of which will be rolled out over the coming months.”

David Mundell, managing director of Axis Security, responded: “We’re thrilled to be awarded the contract. Axis strives to provide a highly professional, Best-in-Class service to its clients. We believe that our vision is closely aligned with that of UCL. We’re excited about the potential for this contract to develop over the coming years.”

Founded in 1826 in the heart of London, UCL is London’s leading multidisciplinary university with more than 13,000 staff and nearly 42,000 students from 150 different countries on its roll-call.
